Music and Worship Arts 

The music department and worship arts of First United Methodist Church are under the direction of Marion Smith, Ph.D. – Director of Music Ministries and Worship Arts. Music and the arts have played a major role in the life of FUMC and continue to do so through the performance of music drawn from the long traditions of the United Methodist Church and other traditions that complement our worship services in a meaningful manner. 

A love of the visual arts is seen immediately in our nine stained-glass windows depicting the life of Christ and in Michelangelo’s “Last Supper” dominating the narthex.   As a church seeking to be relevant in the 21st century, we look for ways to incorporate music and the arts that help keep the traditions of the church alive, while at the same time being open to the dynamics of new worship music and arts that will enrich our services as we seek to help others become disciples of Christ.
